Please note that you cannot book CT and MRI appointments via the Radiology Service itself. To do so, please make a regular appointment for a preliminary examination at one of our services!
The Department of Radiology is one of the best-equipped radiology clinics in veterinary medicine in Germany.
Thanks to the comprehensive expertise of our highly specialized radiology team led by veterinarian and DipECVDI (Diplomate of European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging) Priv.-Doz. Dr. Andreas Brühschwein and the modern equipment, we are able to guarantee your pet the best diagnostic imaging.
The clinic is equipped with:
- digital X-ray
- Ultrasound
- Computed tomography (CT) incl. fully automated contrast medium injector
- Magnetic resonance tomograph (MRT)
- Scintigraphy
Many radiological examinations, such as computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, require the animal to lie completely still and can therefore only be carried out under anesthesia.
The integration of radiology into surgery and the associated close cooperation between radiologists and surgeons enables us to coordinate these modern examination methods and the subsequent surgical therapies. This means that diagnostics and therapy can often be carried out under a single anesthetic.
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a particularly gentle and practically risk-free examination procedure that works exclusively with a magnetic field and therefore does not expose your pet to any radiation. With a field strength of 1.5 Tesla, our MRI scanner is one of the high-field devices routinely used in human medicine. Special examination coils and sequences also enable us to carry out special MRI examinations, such as examinations of the blood vessels (MRI angiography).
CT (computed tomography) is a layer-by-layer X-ray examination that provides better detail than conventional X-ray examinations, especially when examining the bones or lungs. Of course, when performing CT examinations on your pet, we make sure that the examination is carried out using the so-called low-dose technique in accordance with the ALARA principle ("As Low As Reasonably Achievable", a basic principle of radiation protection).
The sonography device (ultrasound) is of the latest generation and enables particularly high-resolution ultrasound examinations. This means that many diseases can be diagnosed without having to resort to a CT or MRI scan. Sonography can usually be performed without anesthesia and is not associated with any risks for your pet.
The modern digital X-ray system enables X-ray images to be digitized together with other radiological examination methods such as CT or MRI. In contrast to X-ray film, digital X-ray images can also be post-processed on the computer so that tissue changes can be better visualized. The time-consuming process of film development is also eliminated, so that long waiting times for you and your pet are avoided and we can inform you of your pet's diagnosis more quickly.
